The jazz trombonist and blues devotee Chris Barber (RC 346) brought all manner of blues singers to Britain in the late 50s and early 60s. His genius move was not only to expose British audiences to such great and then-unheard talents as Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Witherspoon, but he also had his band provide much of the backing, lending a joyously jazzy vibe to the songs. Here Barber introduces the artists and recalls anecdotes with a very 50s gentility. The three discs in the set are packed full, taken from six live shows and four studio sessions.

Chris Isaak Wicked Game.

Chris Barber in Concert had been recorded in December 1956; Chris Barber in Concert, Vol. 2 in January 1958; and Chris Barber in Concert, Vol. 3 followed a mere month after that, in Brighton on March 1, 1958. Fortunately, Barber and his band had a wide enough repertoire to ensure that there was no repetition of tunes between the discs (except for "Bourbon Street Parade," which opens each of the first two volumes)

Donald Christopher Barber OBE (born 17 April 1930) is an English jazz musician, best known as a bandleader and trombonist. As well as scoring a UK top twenty trad jazz hit, he helped the careers of many musicians, notably the blues singer Ottilie Patterson, who was at one time his wife, and Lonnie Donegan, whose appearances with Barber triggered the skiffle craze of the mid-1950s and who had his first transatlantic hit, "Rock Island Line", while with Chris Barber's band
