The absolutely gorgeous voice of Fritz Wunderlich giving a singing lesson in how to sing Mozart!! . Wunderlich, Fritz: Rarities From Opera and Operetta.
Fritz Wunderlich-Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön (1960-64). Strictly speaking of lyric tenor voices, Wunderlich could have been the greatest of them all. The more I listen, the more I am inclined to say this is the single most beautiful lyric tenor voice I have ever heard.
Friedrich "Fritz" Karl Otto Wunderlich (26 September 1930 – 17 September 1966) was a German lyric tenor, famed for his singing of the Mozart repertory and various lieder. He died in an accident when he was only 35. Wunderlich was born in Kusel in the Palatinate, Germany. His mother was a violinist and his father was a choirmaster. For a short time, the family kept the inn "Emrichs Bräustübl" (Emrich's Brewing Cottage)
Fritz Wunderlich (September 26, 1930 - September 17, 1966) was a German tenor, born in Kusel,. His mother was a violinist and his father, who died when Fritz was only five years old, had been a choir-master. The family lived with difficulties, and the story goes that as a young man Fritz Wunderlich worked in a bakery, starting his singing studies at the insistence of neighbours and passers-by who witnessed his natural musical gifts and beautiful voice.

Fritz Wunderlich is one of those singers whose voice, while you are listening to it, seems to eclipse all others. Ravishingly beautiful, perfectly produced, radiant, even, mellow, it flows out with effortless ease like a golden stream. I chose this album because it had particular tracks I wanted. It is, however, a double album which is filled up with a fair bit of Viennese Operetta. This music is not much to my taste and seems rather middle of the road to me. If you can find a single disc option that has all your favourites on it, I would go for that.
