Levon Vincent - Fabric 63 Despite Levon Vincent's claims to the contrary, the music of his New York house contemporaries is hardly borne of some sort of mysticism. Jus-Ed is the type of guy who leaves a New York party early in winter so that he can get back to his Connecticut base and earn some money shoveling snow. The real tie that binds this crew together is hard work and a throwback attitude to the music industry. Perhaps the most important of these old-school values is the idea of not biting someone's style. You'd be hard-pressed to say that any of the artists that Levon Vincent features on his debut commercial mix CD, fabric 63, sound like anyone else but themselves. Even the aforementioned Parasole, whose "Tyson" represents a long-awaited first step into original solo productions, is instantly identifiable as something different than DJ Qu, Black Jazz Consortium and Vincent.

This might be more of a coup for the Fabric label than it is for Levon Vincent - a venerated house DJ and producer active for a decade through his More Music NY, Deconstruct, and Novel Sound labels. Seven of these 15 selections are Vincent's own, and they include recent and new material. The other productions come from some of the man's peers: Joey Anderson, Jus-Ed, JM De Frias, DJ Qu, Deconstruct partner Anthony Parasole, and Black Jazz Consortium (of one, namely Fred Peterkin)

Fabric 63. Compilation album by. Levon Vincent. Fabric 64 is a 2012 album by Guy Gerber. It is the fifth mix from the Fabric series where the artist used only his own material. The first four were Pure Science's Fabric 05, Ricardo Villalobos' Fabric 36, Omar-S' Fabric 45, and Shackleton's Fabric 55.

Levon Vincent seems to have taken elements of Techno, Deep House, Ambient, Bass music put them into the mixer and produced a sound which is genuinely new. This mix certainly avoid falling into any obvious categories - there is innovation on show. The BPMs are fairly slow but the sounds are bass heavy and pretty intense.

Vincent's Stereo Systems has a skanking, industrial edge while Early Reflections brings in dub effects sounding like Deepchord on steroids. There is no hands in their air euphoria, this is a heads down late night session, likely to appeal more to guys than girls. However, it's not all pounding dark vibes. The End is practically an ambient track, a beautiful one too, and the mix is rounded off with Black Jazz Consortium's dreamy Far Away. A comedown classic in the making.Fabric are still turning out great mixes and Levon Vincent has delivered one of the best in recent years.

Definitely a solid mix by Levon. He truly has an understanding of sound and simplicity and how to use both to great effect. The Fabric mix has a very raw feel but occasionally leans over to the tender side such as on his track 'The End' which he mixes beautifully with 'Backlight' from Black Jazz Consortium. I believe he captures the feeling of the club well and showcases some exceptional music of his own and his associates. If you were to walk into the club round 6/7am on a sunday morning, you could definitely expect to hear some of these late night jams and probably see people freaking the fuck out to them, people such as myself. Good Job Levon!!! keep it up!!!

On repeated listens I warmed up to the set. Just when you thought the mix CD was becoming irrelevant, they put out an exceptional mix like this one. I really love the style - it's a blend of house and techno with slow, bare-bones grooves. The one downside perhaps is that its a bit uninteresting at the start; it takes rather long to develop. Once it gets going, it can't be beat.
