the main side, Horizons is the seminal release from LTJ Bukem, a career defining moment and a bridge-gap for the genres and subgenres of jungle and dnb. everyone knows Horizons but I bought this record for Rain Fall. a beautiful piece of under rated rhythm, starting off with an off-beat vocal mash up and then dropping into the famous Hot Pants break which has been heavily EQ'd to sound raw and very rolling, the tune then breaks into a fantastic roll of a chilled, lush pad, with rollin. Heard this tune countless times in the late 90s and in early 00s when I started DJing I managed to get hold of Horizons on vinyl but have since sold a lot of my old 12's (so regret that) but this really was why I wanted to produce Drum n Bass. back then a lot of sounds were lifted from other records and I think Bukem worked it so well within this track.

Where does these piano chords come from in Horizons please? I've heard them in a Dana's Ruh track called "Jamming"
Mavegar
Rain fall was made in late 1993 same as peshay's the piano tune but both never got full releases to summer 95

the main side, Horizons is the seminal release from LTJ Bukem , a career defining moment and a bridge-gap for the genres and subgenres of jungle and dnb ... everyone knows Horizons but I bought this record for Rain Fall ... a beautiful piece of under rated rhythm, starting off with an off-beat vocal mash up and then dropping into the famous Hot Pants break which has been heavily EQ'd to sound raw and very rolling, the tune then breaks into a fantastic roll of a chilled, lush pad, with rollin beats and a solid bassline ... give this one a try !!

I don't really like Horizon, it's not a bad track, but it is a bit drum and bass "lite" (it truly wouldn't be amiss in a deodorant advert), which is probably why it appeared on so many of those awful chill out CDs in the early noughties. Rainfall is the superior track for my money.
Zadora
How dare you/BLASPHEMY!! Horizons is a stone cold classic.... END OF.

Camden Town square april 1996, Horace selled me "Logical Progression session 1" and i falled in love of D&B and Horizon was a key song.Thank you Horace and thank you Danny!

One of the reasons why I produce Drum n Bass. I remember hearing this on Radio 1 back in 1997, was only about 10 years old at the time and listened to Jungle on and off when I was young. Heard this tune countless times in the late 90s and in early 00s when I started DJing I managed to get hold of Horizons on vinyl but have since sold a lot of my old 12's (so regret that) but this really was why I wanted to produce Drum n Bass. As for the sample used.... back then a lot of sounds were lifted from other records and I think Bukem worked it so well within this track. If anyone remembers the documentary he was in with his label there was a part where he was in the studio sampling sounds and he said he often ripped from jazz records etc so it wasnt uncommon. If anything Bukem took the intelligent sound to the masses! great DJ and great producer. Horizons will always have a place in any DnB/Jungle set I do.

Just wanted to engage with you, this record horizons was a defining musical master class.Bukem Dano????

I know lol! I was listening to jungle at a stupid age when most at 10 were listening to shit top 40.
Alsardin
If u was only 10 in 1997 then u missed the the whole jungle scene m8 u w
Simple fellow
fantastic release but is it just me or does the bassline come in at a peculiar time on the a side "horizons"?
Ochach
It comes in a half beat behind so it's perfectly in time for the tune.
Burgas
No. The bassline comes in perfectly. Almost like you're not expecting it.
Cerekelv
I use this tune as an alarm to wake me up. One of the best ways to start a day, I recommend it to anyone. A timeless classic. If you don't like this then your not worth knowing.
Usishele
I have every one of those records-Bought them at Liquid Sky in NYC-Chloe Sevigeny worked there-Im listening to the record right now-found it finally -I have so many memories tied to these songs-I spun DnB in nyc for a while-I started going to party's- early 90's -Brooklyn Underground parties Frankie/Bones -Adam X-Heather Heart- Storm Raves--Nasa-The living Room-Lime Light-The scene was amazing in "the city" during the late 80's throughout the 90's-I used to work at DAnce Tracks in nyc on 1st and 3rd-Amazing record store-was alot of fun working there-I got paid to mix records all day!-There was grunt work-but still-There are hardly any dance record stores left in the city-
Dagdalas
This was released in 1995, epitomising that "intelligent Drum n Bass" sound of the time: lush melodies and trancey moods, underpinned by breakbeat rhythms. However, rewind a year earlier to 1994 and take a listen to "Sunflash", the first track on Lemon Sol's album "Environmental Architecture". You'll very likely spot a not-insignificant resemblance to those sweeping, lush melody structures on "Horizons"; as in: they're exactly the same! Ah yes; clever (and uncredited) pillaging by Mr Bukem, for sure.
Thorgaginn
Is it an actual sample of the Sunflash tune? There seems to be a lot going on in the LS track that isn't in Horizons? Maybe it's just me missing something?
Era
Cheers for that info! The Lemon Sol track is amazing and very surprising to me, don't rightly know how i managed to miss it, well, i can actually...... 1994!!!Still, though i have to respect the Bukem for a blinding rip-off. And the inclusion of the Maya Angelou poetry in his mix is inspirational (due more perhaps to the African poets power of words) - more rightly this tune should be called 'Lemon Sol - Sunflash (LTJ Bukem DnB rework)'...?
Shem
One of the all time classics and IMO Bukem's best tune. Crafted at a time when Jungle was very quickly evolving away from its Rave roots, tunes like this opened DnB to a much wider audience. The sample at the beginning says it all "Each new hour holds new chances for new beginnings, The Horizon leans forward offering you space to place new steps of change ..."

yes, turned d'n'b into music for ladies panty liner adverts
