Its a heavenly pop hit, Its something that we're humming as. We swoop low on trees, or we sweep under carpets, We can dive into suns though its not recommended, We can hover, silent, and listen, closely. It all seems, (all seems) Luc Knight. Loved this song back in high school in Sydney. None of us even knew The Chills were from NZ ha ha. To us it was up there with all the other stuff we were listening to (Stone Roses, Ride, Charlatans). The song and video are completely timeless. Why were they not massive??!?!? 6 years назад. Great memories of the early eighties in ChCh for me.
The Chills finally released their first album, Kaleidoscope World, in 1986; the album was a compilation of various previously released singles, EP tracks and songs from the Dunedin Double EP. The band released their first proper album, Brave Words, in 1987. The band spent most of 1987 (February through mid-December) promoting the album by touring Europe, interspersed with four July dates in New York and Boston. Their 1990 album Submarine Bells included their biggest international hit, the whimsically titled "Heavenly Pop Hit". The tune was also a hit in the US, as it charted at on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart; it remains their only American chart appearance.
Supplanting the earlier Kaleidoscope World as a singles overview of the band, from early days to cuts from Soft Bomb, Heavenly is a great starting point for any Chills newcomer. The opening three songs alone make this a winner - the title track, a shimmering pop gem, "I Love My Leather Jacket," a poppy Velvet kin' salute to deceased drummer Martyn Bull, and "Doledrums," a perverse celebration of collecting unemployment and killing time with a neat clock-chime opening.
